Activities

Varied activities are crucial for older people as they promote mental, physical, and social well-being. Engaging in different activities helps maintain cognitive function, encourages physical activity, and fosters social connections, all of which are essential for a healthy, fulfilling life.

At Kirriemuir Day Centre, our diverse range of activities is designed to cater to these needs. Whether it’s creative arts, exercise, or social events, each contributes to the overall well-being of our members, helping them stay active, engaged, and connected.

A sample of our regular activities

  • Craftwork

Staff encourage members to try new arts and crafts. A few members share their skills and experience to teach others to knit and crochet. We have adult colouring pictures and paints that members enjoy. A range of seasonal crafts are always available.

  • Quizzes

We have individual quiz sheets for members to complete. We have group quizzes which add the social aspect and bring out the competitive nature in many members. They are always good fun and bring much laughter.

  • Outings

Bus outings are popular during the summer months.

We also do visits to local coffee shops.

  • Internet / video games

A variety of games for the Wii are available for members to enjoy. Internet access is available on a laptop for member use.

  • Baking

Members can get involved in making cakes, treats and other food. Baking – even for beginners – can be very relaxing and restorative, not to mention rewarding when you sample it later!

  • Games

Daily games are a regular feature, with therapeutic exercise programmes encouraged. Bingo is enjoyed weekly, and jigsaws are available for those seeking some quiet time.

  • Entertainment

There is entertainment regularly throughout the year where members are encouraged to sing-a-long, play musical instruments or enjoy a bit of dancing.

  • Outdoors

The centre has a large private garden, with a patio, seating and a summerhouse. Some members enjoy a spot of gardening or just watching our very own chickens!

  • December Events
  • Christmas Fun Days

As well as the regular activities, we like to be spontaneous sometimes to keep things fun and interesting for the members. We have garden parties and celebrations for national events like the Coronation of King Charles in 2023.

Recently we had a visit from Bluey! Bluey came to Kirriemuir to visit his Granma Betty and decided to visit us. In order to get some lunch, he had to earn his keep, gardening driving the bus and meet and greeting the members.
